Flying Dutchman 2010 Fall Regatta, The ‘Spin Pole’
September 17th and 18th, 2011
NOTICE OF RACE
Organizing Authority: URI Sailing Club, please direct all questions to the regatta chair, Sail Newport is strictly the regatta site.
The regatta will be governed by the rules, as defined in The Racing Rules of Sailing 2009-2012.
2. ELIGIBILITY, ENTRY and REGISTRATION:
2.1 All boats of the Flying Dutchman Class are invited to participate.
2.2 Registration will be on the lawn under the canopy at Sail Newport from 6:00pm to 8:00pm on Friday evening, September 16th and 8:00 AM to 9:00 AM on Saturday morning, September 17th.
2.3 The entry fee is $65.00 per boat. We apologize as this is more than other FD regattas in the area, unfortunately we have to pay for the use of Sail Newport’s venue, as ours is not fit for FD racing.
3.1 Boats entered in the races must comply with Flying Dutchman Class measurement requirements. Entrants should contact the Class Measurer, in advance of the regatta, to clarify or confirm any questions concerning compliance. Do not let an older boat’s missing certificate prevent you from sailing.
4.1 The skippers meeting will be at 9:00 AM on Saturday, September 17th on the lawn at Sail Newport
4.2 We will attempt to have four to five (4-5) races on Saturday, and two to three (2 -3) races on Sunday, depending on weather. Racing will start on Saturday at 10:00 am, and Sunday at 9:30 am. No race will be started after 1:00 pm on Sunday.
5. SAILING INSTRUCTIONS: Sailing Instructions will be available at Sail Newport upon Registration and on the class website at least three days in advance.
6. RACING AREA and COURSES: The racing area will be on Narragansett Bay south of Rose and west of Goat Island. The courses shall be double triangle with a windward finish, triangle-windward-leeward windward (Olympic) or a Harry Anderson (details in SI). Marks will be temporary orange inflatable buoys.
7. PERSONAL SAFETY: Participants race at their own discretion and participants agree to waive any claims against the race committee, Sail Newport and the URI Sailing Club or their officers, members or any and all race organizers as a result of any action or omission on their part in connection with this regatta, or for any incidents that may occur prior to race days, during practice, or after the conclusion of racing. We recommend that all participants wear personal flotation devices while racing.
8. SCORING: The Low Point Scoring System, Appendix A4 of the RRS, will apply. A minimum of three races must be sailed to constitute a regatta.
9. LAUNCHING: Ramp Launching facilities are available at Sail Newport, hoist available for an additional charge.
10. PRIZES: The Perpetual Spin Pole will be awarded for first place; other awards may be given, depending upon attendance.
11. FACILITIES: Camping is available on Chris and Kate’s Lawn (about 30 minutes away), Shower facilities will be available, both at our house if you choose to camp and at the mule barn at Sail Newport after racing. There are many hotels, motels, and Bed and Breakfasts in the area. For those wishing to leave there boats here for the HPDO, we will arrange storage.
The entry fee includes:
- · Coffee, juice, donuts & bagels each morning
- · Lunch on both race days
Additional lunches for family members or friends may be purchased.
Dinner plans are not yet finalized and will be dependent on anticipated regatta attendance. For this reason, advance notice of your plans to attend the regatta will be greatly appreciated. Dress will be casual.
